Gold has been the epitome of luxury for several thousand years. Gold stands for exclusivity, prosperity and wealth. It is one of the most valuable and due to its unmistakable, warm and luminous color one of the most popular precious metals.

Real gold has its price. In gastronomy dishes accented with edible gold leaf are considered highly exclusive and are celebrated as a luxury lifestyle. Only a few delicacies - primarily chocolates - receive a small decoration made of gold leaf flakes in selected specialist shops.

What is new is the idea of producing edible luxury delicacies completely covered with gold leaf.

My name is Franz Bauer ...
... and I love chocolate. As a little boy Easter was my favourite festival of the year. I still exactly remember it in the middle of the nest - my golden chocolate bunny. The unique crackling of the chocolate when I bit into it. The incomparable, sweet taste in my mouth. Even then I couldn't wait to get the gold foil off. I thought to myself how nice it would be to bite into a golden chocolate bunny without having to unwrap it first. If I could just eat the gold. After all the bunny was only half as beautiful without its golden foil.

The thought...
... somehow never let go of me completely: I had to fulfill this childhood dream. Together with a confectioner friend the time had finally come. At first she was skeptical of my idea of completely gilding a chocolate bunny. It also took many arduous attempts and a very steady hand to apply the wafer-thin gold. At first it just didn't want to stick. And who actually had the idea to open a window? A puff of air should cost me a lot of money because gold leaf is unfortunately so light that it simply flies away.
After a lot of trial and error ...
... brooding and finally a lot of sweat and work he stood in front of me: my first shiny golden chocolate bunny. More magnificent and beautiful than I ever imagined - completely covered with real gold. And: No, I didn't eat it. It was just too beautiful for that. Now it lives under a glass dome in my living room. Its name is Luitpold. And it is truly unique - it only exists once like this. I wanted to make this precious uniqueness accessible to others and so the idea for Franz Bauer - GoldFoodDekadenz® was born.

To do justice to the expensive coating,
... only the best chocolate came into question for me: Made from the highest quality ingredients, sustainable and regional. I found the ideal partner for my project in Confiserie Dengel. The gilding must still be done entirely by hand and makes every figure absolutely unique. In the meantime I have of course eaten more than one of my gold leaf chocolate bunnies.
Decadent? Well, what if - after all you are what you eat.
THE IDEA
Real gold as a refinement

The most extraordinary feature of our product range is also our unique selling point: a complete coating made of real gold.
Spray paint? Unthinkable. It had to be real high-quality gold from the start. Edible gold leaf is the most exclusive and expensive known food coloring and is simply referred to as E 175. It is extremely stable and does not dissolve in water, oil or acids.
The gilding is done exclusively in the most delicate and extremely complex manual work. Cracks in the gold surface naturally also arise as the processed gold is applied very thinly. The cracked gold surfaces are unavoidable but show that it is pure gold leaf. We wanted to retain the vintage character of the gold application and therefore deliberately decided against color treatment before gilding.
Thus every figure is uniquely different - just a real one-of-a-kind.
